OBG®'s Foodie Friday: Bake 'N Shark

 Bake 'N Shark
In layman's terms, Bake 'N Shark is a fried shark sandwich native to Trinidad...and guess what?  It is yummmmmm-ee.  Technically, it is deep-fried shark stuffed in a pocket of deep-fried batter, a bread somewhat similar to the native American Indian "fry bread" popular in the American Southwest (that's the "bake").  A variety of sauces and condiments are available as well.  If you click on the large Bake 'N Shark link above, I've managed to find a recipe online; it'll be up to you to find the shark meat.  ;-)

You can find about a dozen Bake 'N Shark huts at Maracas Bay, one of Trinidad's most beautiful beaches located on the north side of the island.  The most popular shack (you should've seen the line!) is called Richard's.  Check out this Bizarre Foods video for the skinny (starting at the 2:25 mark).  Host Andrew Zimmern says it's the best fish sandwich he has ever eaten!  I'll definitely have to second that emotion!

    Bake and shark is my favorite thing on the planet and the reason I married my Trini husband! I've had it from maracas but.... Shhhh.... My mother in law makes it JUST as good

    I think Trinidad has some of the most interesting cuisine in the Caribbean. I've never had shark, but I will definitely try some if I get chance to go to Trinidad.
