I am pretty excited about my latest book project Talking White: 14 Ways to Cope With Thoughtless Remarks. The preface - My Life as an Oreo - was pretty hard to write. It conjured up a number of feelings that I typically keep buried, but I am dedicated to the value of this project and want to help both young people and adults cope. That is why I am offering advance (free) copies of the preface to those who sign up to follow this blog. It is time to create a peaceful and thought-provoking dialogue, don't you think?
I also would like the people who use the phrases "talking White" or "acting White" to consider how this affects the person you're referring to. The phrases are very rarely used with light or love. Just give it some thought. Please. And share your thoughts here if you like.
OneBrownGirl® is now on Twitter as well. The twitters will be dedicated to special offers and daily musings about The Brown Girl World. Of course, anyone with an interest in celebrating culture can join. It'll be fun!
Thanks for listening...and following along.

The "talking white" reference has been made to me, about me. At almost 42 years old, I can only attribute that particular reaction to the individual's exposure to the English language at an early age.It comes down to using proper English which is NEITHER BLACK NOR WHITE. You use it or you don't.
I am a follower!
I somehow stumbled upon OBG, I can't remember where or how but I love it! I am now following you through your blog and love it too!
I think what you're doing is truly inspirational. I just found this site but be sure that i plan on following your blog religiously. For years i've been told that i talk white, or that i'm not black simply because i don't fit the steriotypes for the average black girl. Can't wait untill the book comes out.
