The One Brown Girl Challenge

Go outside of your comfort zone.

What a horribly icky feeling it is to do something that doesn't make you comfortable.  With just two days left to get people to vote for me to get a Room of Her Own at BlogHer '12, I have resorted to asking strangers on Twitter to consider my panel.  SO not me.

Had I known I was going to be in town for the conference, I would have simply submitted a session proposal for the Official Program and the answer would've been a simple Yes or No.  But noooooooooooo.  I was too last minute for that.  So here I am hustling for votes that might or might not even make a difference.  This is SO not my forte.  I am SO outside of My Comfort Zone (MCZ).

But guess what?  I'm super duper committed to spreading the word about travel philanthropy, giving bloggers something to consider when they travel, and showcasing the travel and lifestyle bloggers that currently make giving a part of their travels...either big or small.  Even if I don't get picked, people I don't know actually like my panel idea and that gives me the push I need to stay outside of MCZ for just two more days and perhaps even submit the idea for future conferences.

@OneBrownGirl I'm happy to spread the word :)

RT @prcarrs: I just voted for this #BlogHer12 session. http://t.co/zqnMowCo Sounds very interesting.

When it's all said and done, reaching beyond our own personal limits is a challenge, but it can be SO worth it at the end of the day.  I'm sure you have done something you didn't want to do because it was the best thing to do and if you were doing it for the right reasons, I betcha it turned out just fine.  Betcha.

Can you name a time you went outside of YCZ and it turned out better than you expected?  Do tell.  I could use a little rah-rah.

I hope you're able to present, it really does sound great! And stepping outside my comfort zone is so not my favorite thing either. Glad I could make it a little easier!

You’d never know it now, as I’m the woman with the red heels on the beach or the one with the bright pink scarf over the all black business outfit, but I used to be a wall flower. I crawled out of my comfort zone to show my children that it’s ok to ask for what you want, speak up when you have something to say, and to dance when you want. (So NOT where I was comfortable). I used to be afraid to let the public see what my close friends already knew, that I’m a Vibrant, Exuberant, Playful, Wonderful Woman, having placed limits on myself with “What would THEY think?”, or “What would THEY say?” Without meaning to do so, I passed this untaught but observed lesson onto my children.

It’s ok to be shy, just don’t let it stop you from getting what you want. My eldest daughter was the youngest paid staffer on the successful presidential campaign, my son is now canvassing for an election he believes in and my youngest daughter just sang and danced her way across the stage in “Legally Blond”. As for me, I’m wearing my pink scarf while I interview for a career change. Be Bold, Be Brave and Smile.

That was just the Rah Rah I needed Shayurrie! As you know, I'm pretty extroverted when leading a trip or in one on one or small group conversations, but THAT is where My Comfort Zone is. When it comes to asking for things on a more personal level, I tend to prefer to get things done myself. Interestingly, rejection isn't the main issue as I've had a successful sales career and as an entrepreneur, ALL I DO is ask. LOL But I think the personal nature of things changes EVERYTHING for me. But I AM brave, I AM bold, and at the end of the day, I'm willing to go outside of My Comfort Zone in a heartbeat for the things that actually matter. Thanks again! ;=)
