Cheers to 2013!

Monday, December 31, 2012
It's New Years Eve day and I'm lazing about in the bed. The sun is shining brightly through the slats of the half-raised blind on my bedroom window but I haven't been outside yet so I don't know how warm it is or isn't on this glorious California day.

My husband is to my left with his back facing me reading the super thin San Francisco Chronicle and my cat is nestled underneath my left armpit purring loudly and making it difficult for me to type this post. It's nice and quiet. Just how I like it.

I wasn't going to even write a post today.  Instead I was going to post a short Facebook status that said something like "2012 was good to me. Cheers to 2013," and then I did it: I started looking at the pictures on my iPhone and then I pulled out the memory card (aptly named) from my camera.  I've been smiling at the memories - many of which I have shared with my Facebook Family over the past 12 months - ever since.

The truth is I did a lot in 2012. Too much, actually.  I know this because I came back from a six week fourth quarter European vacation and needed to rest which of course I did not do...until now.

I interrupted my husband moments ago (he's fiddling with the iPad now) and asked him if he thought it was narcissistic for me to post pictures of my personal and professional adventures in 2012.  He told me no.  If I were to ask my mother the same question, I think she would tell me it's TMI.  In this moment, I clearly see that I get whatever modesty and humility I possess from her as I always hesitate before I share (something you probably didn't know about me), but then I share anyway because as much as I am my mother's daughter, I was also raised to be an independent thinker which is why I wouldn't mind posting some pictures right now and why there is a cat in my bed under my left armpit.  My mother would never let a cat in her bed.  Probably not even in her house.  LOL

And so.  In keeping with Mexican and Venezuelan New Year's tradition (hey, I'm a culture lover), I'm going to get out one of my suitcases and walk around the block with it on New Years Day so that I am blessed with more travel in 2013 instead of boring you with a pictorial retrospective of my 2012 memories.

Happy New Year everyone! 2012 was good to me.  *Cheers* and my personal best wishes to you and yours in 2013!  (P.S. The cat finally moved.)

Isn't it great to look over those memory cards and journals to see how far you've come in just a year. Facebook also has that pretty cool year in review thing and it's been instrumental in reminding me to be thankful for my past, and be excited about my future. Happy New Year!

Thanks, Michaela! And Happy New Year to you too! =)
Yes, looking through camera memory cards, blog and Facebook posts is a beautiful (and thoughtful) reminder of how fantastic 2012 was. I am grateful.
I saw the Facebook "2012 in Review" feature and thought it was cool although the 20 highlights they selected for me weren't entirely accurate. But hey *shrug* Facebook definitely isn't perfect, although I admit it's perfect for me.
*Big smile*
