Barcelona, Mary & Me

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

When I wrote (and Facebooked) about Mary in August 2012 (click here), I had just told her that I was taking her to Paris. Now here we are six months later, and it's just not going to work.

You see, Mary will be a college senior starting in the Fall of 2013 and taking her out of school to work with me in Paris in the middle of her first semester just won't do.  We were both disappointed, but I'm pleased to say that our disappointment was short-lived.

Believe it!

This August, Mary is going to take some time off from both of her jobs and we are going to get to know Barcelona, Spain as intimately as we can in 10 days.

We're going to stay in a modern Oh-Barcelona.com apartment just steps away from the famous La Sagrada Familia (click here!), walk / eat / drink until we fall out, and get turned out at a flamenco show.  We're even going to serve the local community in some way.  In Mary's words: "I can't wait to experience international jet lag for the first time."  Now that's enthusiasm.  LOL

Mary and I still have plans to meet up at Avalon Beverly Hills on March 9, 2013 so we can make our way to the Federal Building together for Passport Day in the USA so that I can personally* get Mary her very first passport.  She's going to need it.  =)

Have you been to Barcelona?  Do tell.

*Mary's passport is being funded by me and is in no way being funded in full or in part by The Passport Party Project.

You see Mary? You are proof that when one door closes another door opens. Have a wonderful time storing up memories for a lifetime.

@AQUEELAH AND LENISE: THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS. I AM SO EXCITED!!!

I AM SO INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN THIS AMAZING GIFT. THERE IS NOTHING WORTH MORE TO ME THAN A CHANCE TO SEE THE WORLD AND LEARN FIRST HAND ABOUT OTHER CULTURES. TRACEY AND ONE BROWN GIRL HAVE GIVEN ME SO MANY WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITIES THAT I WOULD HAVE NOT OTHERWISE HAD A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE, AND I WILLN NEVER KNOW HOW TO THANK HER FOR THIS.

TRACEY HAS BESTOWED UPON ME, AND MANY OTHER YOUNG LADIES, AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO VIEW THE WORLD FROM A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE, THE TRAVELER'S PERSPECTIVE. TRACEY HAS TOUGHT ME, AMONG MANY THINGS, THAT THE VALUABLE LESSONS THAT ARE LEARNED THROUGH TRAVELING THE WORLD CANNOT BE LEARNED IN A CLASSROOM OR FROM A BOOK BUT RATHER ONLY THROUGH THE TRAVELING EXPERIENCE. I CANNOT WAIT TO EXPERIENCE THE RICH CULTURE THAT BARCELONA HAS TO OFFER AND EXPERIENCE FIRST HAND HOW LIFE IN SPAIN IS DIFFERENT FROM OUR LIVES IN AMERICA. OKAY, I MUST ADMIT THAT THE WORD "EXCITED" DOES NOT BEGIN TO EXPLAIN MY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS TRIP. I DONT EVEN THINK THE WORD "ECSTATIC" CAN DESCRIBE HOW I AM FEELING BECAUSE MY FEELINGS ARE INDESCRIBABLE... BUT ECSTATIC IS A START.

THANK-YOU SO MUCH TRACEY!!!
