When the Haiti earthquake hit in 2010, like many of you, I wanted to know what I could do to help. I arranged a shoe drive in both my local and online communities and felt good about how many folks responded to The OneBrownGirl Challenge. After all, I know I have a lot of shoes. And I bet you do too.
Today I am launching #BrownGirlsGive, a simple yet thoughtful humanitarian movement for OBG advocates, families and friends that will once again challenge us all to give a little from time to time. Small acts often create a big impact.
Today we start with Soles4Souls, Inc., a 501(c)(3) that facilitates the donations of both new and used shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide, including those right here in the US.
The idea is to KIS (keep it simple), and yes, donating is as easy as 1-2-3!

The idea is to KIS (keep it simple), and yes, donating is as easy as 1-2-3!
STEP 1: Get a Medium Flat Rate Box from the US Post Office.
STEP 2: Put 2 or 3 pair of new or gently used shoes in the box.
STEP 3: Mail to: Soles4Souls, 1169 County Road 868, Wadley, Alabama 36276 with a completed Donation Form. Don't forget to write #BrownGirlsGive somewhere on the form. (Flat rate shipping costs approximately $11 and boxes can weigh up to 70 pounds, so weight is not an issue.)
STEP 4: Leave a message in the comments section of this post with your name, city, and the date you shipped/dropped your box of new or gently worn shoes.
STEP 4: Leave a message in the comments section of this post with your name, city, and the date you shipped/dropped your box of new or gently worn shoes.
STEP 5: If you're on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, upload a photo of you making your donation with the following message: "I sent shoes to @soles4souls because #BrownGirlsGive."
Plan B:
Find a drop off location near you by clicking here and go to STEPS 4 and 5. You can get a tax receipt here.
Here's the thing: If just 50 of us mailed/donated 2 pairs of new or gently used shoes, then 100 people won't go without. That's the #BrownGirlsGive goal between now and October 15, 2012.

Happy Birthday, Shautel! Giving feels just as good, doesn't it?
Thanks Tracey..It was a great birthday..I found some more shoes at the Gap Kids and my Best friend and her daughter surprised me and came in from Detroit.. I have 27 pair so far and may add some more tomorrow if the girls cant fit the shoes. Not a shoe hog, LOL, I have been given tons of shoes from other Moms..and I am more than happy to donate them to a child who doesn't have any :)
I'm in. I've got a pair of gym shoes that I bought but don't fit me properly so I never wore them and have been wanting to give them away. I'll find another pair and ship them off this weekend.
