OBG's #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Hannukah. Christmas. Kwanzaa.  New Years.  3 Kings Day.  I'm celebrating the whole shabang.  I am in the holiday spirit.  I'm playing Christmas music, wearing a silly holiday hat at work every day, and drinking Eggnog and Pumpkin Spice Lattes (tall decaf soy) from Starbucks several times a week.  This past weekend I even set out to embark on a day where I performed various random acts of kindness, but instead found myself on the receiving end after I lost my rental car keys on an end-of-the-year airline mileage run in Los Angeles.  People can be so nice.

Starting today, I'm holding my very own daily (!) #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway.  I'm going to do a travel-themed giveaway every 24 hours until I feel like stopping.  *Clapping and Smiling*  And yes, entering is easy peasy.  Just leave ONE cheerful holiday message in the comments section of this post along with your name, city, state and where you'll be taking your next trip...whether it's a staycation in your own town or a big trip out of the country.

Every 24 hours, I will assign all correct entries with a number, pick a winning number at random, and post the results on this blog post.  And then the 24-hour #traveltastic giveaway clock will begin again.  If you've entered once, you're in the running for all of the prizes.  #sa-weet
Happy Holidays!

January 6 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

Welp. Today is Three King's Day, what I consider the end of the Holiday Season, and the final day in my #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway. It's been fun. =)
This super cute women's world map bucket purse is likely to turn some heads, don't you think? The trim is leather and the body of the bag is faux leather and if you don't want it for any reason, not to worry: I can keep it for myself because it's definitely my style. *Grin*

January 5 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

Most of my personal suitcases are identifiable.  I've got hot pink and sun yellow from The eBags Brand as well as a fun leopard suitcase I got from Burlington Coat Factory that I use to transport supplies for The Passport Party Project.  When I travel to Paris, however, I use mostly black duffle bags for all of the goodies I buy for my store.  But the truth is that whether my bags are identifiable or not, it's my bright yellow luggage tags (courtesy of Expedia) that make me 100% certain that it's my bag coming off the luggage turnstile.
Today's #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway is a legacy leather luggage tag by Coach, and if you win it today, you'll definitely be able to ID your bags by this lovely and bright Tourmaline (almost like Tiffany!) color.  Plus, the tag will be monogrammed with your initials on it as well.  #niiiiice

January 4 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

I don't know what you think, but I think traveling to 1,000 places seems like a whole lotta places! (Doesn't it?)  To me, travel isn't about counting the number of countries or cities you've been to, but is instead about the quality of the trip and the personal growth that travel brings about.  But, hey, that's just me.
In spite of my personal perspective, however, I love the book 1,000 Places To See Before You Die and am pleased to announce that today's #traveltastic giveaway is the book AND the 2013 calendar.  A girl can dream...

OneBrownGirl in Morocco.
I went to Marrakesh, Morocco in November 2012 and while I've been too busy to write about it, I will say that I ended up having a love/hate relationship with this beautiful and exotic locale ... which was quite the surprise.  And yes, I would go back, but I think Casablanca (on the beach) is next.

I bought babouches (Moroccan slippers) for myself and my store and I bought these really pretty embroidered caftans, one of which is today's #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway.  Cool, hunh?

January 1 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

It doesn't have to be a winter vacation for you to need an umbrella, right?  I've been to a Caribbean island or two where I got caught in a downpour and while it wasn't cold, I still got hecka wet.
This year I've got my eye on Venice, Italy and (as usual) Paris, France, so today's #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway (because it's still the holiday season!) is two (!) collapsible umbrellas that depict the canals of Venice and the iconic Eiffel Tower, respectively.  Might as well be cute when you get wet.  *Grin*

December 31 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

My annual Paris trip for women (teen girls too!) does not focus on the Black experience in Paris, but to be frank, that's neither here nor there because any person that visits Paris with an interest in the contributions that African-Americans made and continue to make can take one of Julia Browne's Walking in the Spirit Tours to get the 411.  In fact, one of my Paris 2012 tripsters did just that and I'll be taking Julia's tour this coming November. #woot  My solo trek to Josephine Baker's beloved Château des Milandes turned me out completely.
So guess what?  Julia partnered with documentarian Joanne Burke of Blue Lions Films on a DVD series entitled When African-Americans Came to Paris which is today's #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway!  Yep.  Today's winner will receive an exceptional series of six videos filled with rare and astounding archival images of Black Paris.  How about them pommes?

December 30 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

Earlier this year, I found a really cool board game for kids called Around the World at Cost Plus World Market and reached out to the creator of the game, Stacy George, to see if she might be interested in lending support to some of the girls of The Passport Party Project via donation.  She said yes (!) and I'm pleased to announce that not only is Around the World the Official Board Game of The Passport Party Project (with over 30,000 units sold to date, thankyouverymuch), but it's the prize in today's #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway. That (and Stacy) deserve a round of applause, don't you think? *Clapping wildly* Ready to go Around the World?!?!?

In my opinion, one of the most #traveltastic Holiday gifts in the world is this map necklace by Erica Porter of Paper and Place.  Win this prize and you will simply choose your favorite destination and Erica will make your custom-made map necklace from her personal collection of maps.  Is that not The Absolute Cutest?!?!?
I actually found out about Erica on Facebook and she ultimately agreed to be The Passport Party Project's Official Map Necklace Sponsor...without hesitation...which means that one girl from each Passport Party has been winning her very own custom map necklace and will continue to do so throughout this wonderful global awareness initiative sponsored by Expedia.  [Erica is also donating map necklaces to the Grand Prize winners of the Belize trip!]

December 28 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

On a boat trip yearsss ago, I was floating around on a raft on a hot summer day on Nevada's Lake Mead when I heard someone ask for the time.  Who cares? I thought to myself as I soaked in the sunshine fresh from waterskiing.  What difference does it make?  And for some reason on that particular day at that particular time,  I vowed that I would never wear a watch again.  (Is that weird?)  And the truth is, I haven't.  #randomfactaboutTracey
I've tried them on while shopping, of course.  But just for fun.  I've even received watches as gifts over the years.  Some watches are exceptional, don't you think?
Over a year ago, I received this brand new Fossil watch as swag at a blogging conference and it has been sitting in its trusty little box ticking away ever since.  It's super cute too.  I believe it's been waiting just for you because I inadvertently found it just in time for this #traveltastic holiday giveaway and well...I don't wear a watch.  =D

I haven't traveled to Haiti yet, but I've been a Heart of Haiti Ambassador since I first heard Fairwinds Trading's Willa Shalit talk at a blogging conference about trade not aid relative to the impact of the devastating Haiti earthquake in 2010.  But Fairwinds doesn't just empower artisans in Haiti through Macy's Heart of Haiti, but Fairwinds also empowers Rwandan basket artisans through Macy's Path to Peace Collection as well.

Winner of an EXO Spinner Carryon
Chicago Passport Party 2012
When The eBags Brand became the Official Luggage Sponsor of The Passport Party Project, I was ecstatic.  Not only did The eBags Brand agree to gift one girl from each global awareness party with her very own EXO Spinner Carryon, but they're also giving all of the Grand Prize Belize trip winners (and their accompanying parent or guardian) a set of two-piece luggage as well! #swoon
Now that I've got my own eBags gear, I can tell you that I don't know how I managed to live without packing cubes for all of these years!  No more zip lock baggies for me, thankyouverymuch!  On my last trip, all of my belts, gloves, scarves, hats and other accessories had a home in my luggage and packing (and un-packing!) became a breeze.  So in the spirit of Easy Packing, today's #traveltastic Holiday Giveaway winner will win a set of packing cubes from The eBags Brand.

Earlier this year, @AFARMedia found me on Twitter and a few weeks later I sent in my money for a magazine subscription because I not only became smitten with their magazine and their experiential travel opportunities, but I fell head over heels in love with their philanthropic affiliate, the AFAR Foundation, providers of "experiential travel to youth through its flagship program, Learning AFAR". I'm just a sucker for youth travel. I hope you enjoy the magazine as much as I do. *Cheers* to travel both near and, well, afar...

December 21 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

Having just gone from Gold Elite status to Platinum Elite status via American Airlines' AAdvantage program, I'm living proof that one of the best ways to get First and Business class upgrades is to stay loyal to one or two airlines so you can rack up frequent flier miles and travel in comfort. #anothertraveltip But do not get it twisted: There's not a doggone thing wrong with flying Coach and there's not a doggone thing wrong with getting $50 off of the price of a flight either. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to give the winner of this particular daily #traveltastic giveaway my last giftcard on AA.com that I never managed to use along with an outrageously #traveltastic airplane ring. Happy travels!

December 20 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

Oakland. Los Angeles. Austin. Miami. Denver. New York. Chicago.
Since late 2011, I have been living a personal dream and travelling across the US giving underserved girls their very first passports via The Passport Party Project, a global awareness initiative I created that was fully and graciously funded by Expedia.com because I unexpectedly pitched the idea at a travel blogging conference.  #gofigure  In 2013, I'm back in Los Angeles for Passport Day in the USA, off to Atlanta and San Diego; and will finish up where I started off with the pilot right here in Oakland, California.  After that, Expedia's holding a contest where six lucky girls from this initiative are going to get their first passport stamp in Central America's beautiful Belize!  #clapping
As you might imagine, for me to be even a small part of a young girl's first international travel experience is very special indeed. To that end, I would like the winner of today's #traveltastic daily giveaway to also be a small part of a young girl's first international travel experience by giving the gift of a free passport and this Tepper Jackson passport cover to someone the winner knows personally: A deserving girl 11-15 years old. Now how #traveltastic is that?!?!

Drawing: 12/21 at or after 3pm PST
Prize Description: One (1) Tepper Jackson passport cover plus all passport/photo fees for one (1) deserving girl 11-15.  Prize value: $150.95  Where to buy.
Winning Number: 1 (via the Random Number Generator on Random.org) CONGRATULATIONS, Sandy S. of Arlington, TX! Will discuss on or before December 31, 2012

December 19 #Traveltastic Holiday Giveaway

One of the travel tips I pass on to my annual Paris tripsters is to bring a few of their favorite things from home on their 10 night adventure to the City of Light. For me, that means my favorite tea and, among other things, my favorite 100% natural wax soy candles in a cute little travel tin. There's just something a tiny bit luxurious about the sight and scent of Coconut Milk Mango candles (my favorite!) at bed time or when I'm simply lounging around.

Drawing: 12/20 at or after 3pm PST
Prize description: One (1) 1.9 oz. travel tin in each the following scents: Coconut Milk Mango, Mediterranean, Oakmoss, Saffron Lavender, Star Jasmine, Thai Lily for a total of six (6) candles. Burn time: 10 hours each. Prize value: $54. Where to buy.

I'm not sure about my next trip just yet. I spent most of 2012 in the hospital and all my travel what little of it I was allowed to do had to be approved by my doctors. I was told last year at this time I wouldn't even see 2012 begin nevertheless end, so quite frankly all I want to do in 2013 is be OUTSIDE every single day! :)

Happy holidays and here's to 2013- may it be the best yet!

I will be visiting family across the state a lot in the next month or so, because I'm in my brother's wedding in February. Can't wait!

Not sure what happened to my earlier post...so as of today 12/29, I have transformed my Nawlins inspired Christmas tree to a Happy New Year tree. Still in disbelief of how much I ate, but 'tis the season...with family and friends. Although it was an eventful year for me, nevertheless I survived and I am thankful for much. Learned a lot of lessons and much more about me!! Pam B./Dallas

Feliz navidad, y'all! It's me, Patricia King. Sending you new year's greetings too, from Indianapolis, Indiana! Drop in to this flyover city sometimes. We have lots to offer.

My next trip it to the Big Apple on MLK weekend. Looking to immerse myself in some Harlem culture.

I'll need a good watch so I won't miss my train. :)
