[Bah-kah-nahl] Crazy, out of control, nothing but madness. The word is exclusive to Trinidad. Usually used when there is mass confusion, when something isn't going the way it should, or when a crowd goes wild in a concert, party etc.... [UrbanDictionary.com]

I have only been in Trinidad since Saturday, but OMG... Bacchanal is SO the Word of the YEAR.
Not sure if you knew this, but brand new Carnival songs come out every Carnival season, and this year one of the most popular songs is Bacchanalist by Kerwin Du Bois.
Click here to see the video and to hear what the hype is all about.
And then just imagine it played at full tilt on a dozen speakers about the size of refrigerators with the base thumping and you'll get a sense of what I have been hearing since I got here and what I heard at Carnival yesterday. But just a sense. =)
OBG®'s Word of the Week (WOW) post is a mini-homage to my mom who taught me new words by using flashcards at the dinner table and made mealtime fun. You might not necessarily learn a new word, but in the event you do I hope you have as much fun as I did growing up. Word.

I can only imagine what the craziness that is Trinidad right now. Bacchanal Jamaica events starts this Friday. Going to give it a whirl...
Can't wait to hear all about it, April! Many people think that all of the Caribbean islands are the same, and it's always nice to hear about the similarities, but also nice to hear about what makes each island celebration unique.
