Guatemalan Worry People En Español: Muñecas quitapenas = Dolls [that] remove worries The handmade product above has been made by the Maya People who live in the highlands of Guatemala. They make their living from agriculture in the rural areas of the country and are often dependent on alternative forms of income. Each girl at The Miami Passport Party will get a Worry Doll of her own as a keepsake and as a lesson in cultural folklore from around the world. Photo: @OneBrownGirl |
PLEASE MAKE NOTE: This week, I'm in Miami for Hispanicize, an annual event for Latino trendsetters and newsmakers in social media, marketing, entertainment and innovation. And even though it is the norm for me to celebrate Latin culture on a regular basis, it's going to be "all things Latino" on OneBrownGirl.com® this week with [unsponsored] shout outs to Hispanicize sponsors and blog posts that start today with OBG®'s fabulous Multicultural Monday! Enjoy!
An old story tells that when the Maya People of Guatemala had worries, they would tell them to the Worry People. At night they would place the Worry People under their pillows and when they awoke, the Worry People had taken their worries away.
